FAQ

General Questions:

Magnum Ceramic Coating is suitable for coating glass surfaces, including the windshield of course. Just please make sure your windshield is prepared properly, cleaned of all dirt, wax and wiped with IPA before the application. Use a flashlight to check there is no residue remaining and that it has been completely wiped off.

Plastic trim is no problem to coat. It's safe on any solid porous surface including plastic, 3M, glass etc. It won't leave any visible marks, will just bond to the surface.

The graphene coating lasts a minimum of 4 years+ depending on how well the car has been prepared prior to application and the aftercare of the coating including top up of the Graphene Rapid Sealant product on a yearly basis.

1 Layer of Magnum Ceramic Coating is enough for full protection. It is recommended to do 2 layers of graphite coat to enhance the shine and gloss factor and increase the durability as well as making sure the car is covered well in case you missed an area in your first pass.

Magnum Ceramic Coating deepens the look and feel of a black paint-job, fine scratches and swirl marks that are so easily visible on black vehicles should be first buffed out and polished. What Magnum Ceramic Coating is best at is then protecting your paint-job so that it retains the look and doesn't get scratched out again.

Magnum Ceramic Coating for Alloy is made to be used on aluminium and wrapped rims.

Coatings are graded on a graphite hardness scale like pencils. The maximum on a graphite scale is 9H which is applicable to the Alloy Wheel Coating, Glass Coating and Graphene Coating.

One easy method of evaluating scratch resistance of ceramic coating hardness is with a grading pencil test, which requires the use of a kit of pencils with assorted densities from H(softest) to 9H(hardest). Each pencil is used to make lines in the coating; the first pencil in order that does not scratch the coating determines hardness. Magnum Ceramic Coatings base coat formula measures at 9H on the hardness scale; offering the highest possible scratch resistance on the market.

The shelf life of the unopened product is 5 years. The bottle should be kept in a cool dry place (no refrigeration or freezing). Once the bottle has been opened and you started applying the coating, we advise on using the whole amount in the following 48 hours.

There's no guarantee for stone chips but it can protect against most of the scratches.

Yes, although more semi-permanent.  Magnum Ceramic Coating should be thought of as adding another clear coat to the paint’s surface. This new clear coat is glossier, chemical resistant, and harder than the original clear coat. Eventually the clear coat will wear away over the years; its overall longevity depends on conditions, cleaning frequency and proper application.

Magnum Ceramic Coating Car Kit is perfectly safe for any porous surface including vinyl decals, striping, and any sort of car wraps.

Ceramic coating is meant for solid surfaces only. Any surface that bends or folds like a convertible soft cloth top is not meant to be coated with a ceramic coating.

- 9H Hardness
Hardness of ceramic coatings play an important role in determining the level of scratch resistance expected. Magnum Graphene coating measures at 9H on the hardness scale; the highest possible scratch resistance currently offered in a nano-ceramic coating.

Preparation:

Please use a de-greaser or a wax remover prior to the application. IPA wipe-down just before the application is recommended as well to ensure no greasy or wax residue is left on the surface.

If your paint-job is worn out or scratched, it is recommended to buff before the ceramic coating application. Do make sure that prior to the application the surface is completely free of any wax or other buffing agents.

If the car is new or fairly new a proper wash and an IPA wipe-down would be sufficient enough to properly prepare the surface before the application.

Application:

Magnum Ceramic Coating for glass is designed for coating glass surfaces, including the windshield of course. Just please make sure your windshield is prepared properly, cleaned of all dirt, wax and wiped with IPA before the application. Use a light to check there is no residue remaining and that it has been completely wiped off.

Magnum Ceramic Coating for the interior trim is designed for coating on leather surfaces. Please ensure that you wipe down the leather and ensure that all dirt, wax, residue and contaminants have been cleaned from the surface with IPA prior before the application.

Yes you can. However, it might result in slightly less complete coverage due to perhaps rain washing it off before it dries.

We recommend allowing the coating to dry for at least 24 hours without interruption.

If the outside temperature is not too low, you can start the next pass 30 minutes after finishing the buffing of the previous pass.

For best results ensure that the following prep work has been done to the car:

- Car has been washed with the 2-bucket method and completely dried.
- Areas that have scratches and paint fade should be waxed and buffed also ensuring all wax residue is removed prior application.
- Use a clay bar to remove contaminants on panel surfaces.

1. Wrap 1 microfibre cloth around the sponge & apply 4 or 5 drops of Magnum Ceramic Coating across the cloth(add 1-2 drops more whenever the cloth gets dry)

2. Wipe a thin layer across the car surface. First horizontally and then vertically to ensure an even application on a single panel or section

3. Let the coating sit between 1-5 minutes, then remove the residue by very gently buffing with a separate cloth or microfibre towel.

a. ~10 degrees C (50F),: wait 4 minutes,
b. ~20 degrees C, (68F) wait 2-3minutes,
c. ~20+ degrees C, (70F+) wait 1-2 minutes

We recommend folding the cloth/towel and lightly wiping first with 1 side, and then very gently buffing with another side. Very little pressure is required.

Ensure there is no residue or high/dark patches remaining

Missed spots can be fixed easily. Just apply more Magnum Ceramic Coating to the missed area that previously not applied on then buff off. It will level itself with the previously treated surface on its own.

Magnum Ceramic Coating will be dry to touch within 5 hours, at which point the vehicle is ready to drive/use. Over the next 2 days Magnum Ceramic Coating will continue to become harder until the surface reaches 9H hardness levels.

It is advised to use a brand-new cloth for applying Magnum Ceramic Coating. When using an new cloth use different parts of the same microfiber cloth on each section of the car and changing to a new provided microfiber cloth once you run out of room on one. For buffing, the same practice is recommended but you can change less often compared to application.

No very important!  The application of Magnum Ceramic Coating should be done on a single panel at a time (e.g. hood, fender, trunk) ensuring complete coverage and reducing the possibility of letting the product dry too long.

You can do the coating process in an open environment, just ensure there is no high winds with debris moving around and that you don't do the application process in direct sunlight or on an extremely hot day as the coating will start drying too fast and you won't have enough time to wipe off properly.

Yes, just use a different microfiber suede cloth over it.

High humidity can affect the application process. It is recommended to avoid application in high air humidity conditions or to decrease the waiting time between applying and wiping off and buffing the coating by double or triple (so if the recommended time for your outside temperature is 5 minutes, in high humidity conditions wait 2 to 3 minutes before wiping down and buffing)

We recommend nitrile gloves when applying.

A mask is recommended for applications in closed or very poorly ventilated areas.

Aftercare:

We recommend to:

1. Wash on a bi-weekly basis to avoid excessive contamination build up.

2. Avoid washing in direct sunlight to minimize streaking and water spotting.

3. Wash from the top down leaving the dirtiest sections for last to avoid cross contamination.

4. Use the “two bucket” method – one bucket for rinsing your sponge/mitt and one for soapy water.

5. Use separate soap and sponge/mitt for wheels.

6. Apply the Graphene Rapid Sealant to restore any degraded polymers and boost slickness and gloss.

Yes, coated vehicles are much easier to maintain, especially since you will not need to frequently clay, polish, or wax the paint in order to keep it protected from the elements. However, it is important to note that no ceramic coating is bullet proof and the finish will begin to degrade if neglected or improperly cared for.

Waxing your car is not required after you have applied the ceramic coating to your car.
